Get Your Irrigation System Summer Ready
South Lake Tahoe, CA (May 19, 2026) – With spring in full swing and summer just around the corner, it is time to get your irrigation system ready for action. The South Tahoe Public Utility District (STPUD) recommends following four easy steps before irrigating this year: Inspect, Connect, Direct, and Select.
Inspect
Start by inspecting your irrigation system for missing or broken sprinkler heads, damaged pipes, or other visible issues. Turn on each sprinkler station or zone to make sure everything is working properly.
Connect
Leaks often occur where sprinkler heads connect to pipes or hoses. Check all connection points carefully. If you notice pooling water, unusually wet spots, or dry patches in your landscape, your system may have a leak.
Direct
Make sure your sprinklers are watering your lawn and plants, not the driveway, sidewalk, or house. Look for clogged, blocked, or misdirected sprinkler heads, as well as uneven spray patterns, and adjust them as needed.
Select
An irrigation controller that is not programmed correctly can waste both water and money. Update your watering schedule each month based on seasonal needs. Customers can also upgrade to a Rachio Smart Irrigation Controller and receive a discount through STPUD.
South Tahoe Public Utility District water customers are reminded to follow designated watering days:
- Even-numbered street addresses: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday
- Odd-numbered street addresses: Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday
