Community Invited to Help Shape Local Hazard Mitigation Plan

South Lake Tahoe, CA (January 28, 2026) – South Tahoe Public Utility District (STPUD) and Lake Valley Fire Protection District (LVFPD) invite community members to participate in a public workshop to help update the region’s Hazard Mitigation Plan, a critical roadmap for reducing risks from natural disasters and building a safer, more resilient community.

The public workshop will be held on Wednesday, February 11, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the South Tahoe Public Utility District Board Room, located at 1275 Meadow Crest Drive, South Lake Tahoe. All residents, business owners, and interested stakeholders are encouraged to attend.

The Hazard Mitigation Plan identifies natural hazards, assesses community risks, and outlines strategies to protect lives, property, critical infrastructure, and the environment from disasters such as wildfires, floods, and drought. Updated every five years, the plan is essential for maintaining eligibility for Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) grant funding, which helps support local preparedness, mitigation, and recovery efforts.

Public input is a vital part of the planning process. Community perspectives help ensure the plan reflects local priorities, experiences, and concerns while strengthening long-term resilience.

Residents are encouraged to attend, ask questions, and share ideas. For more information, visit www.stpud.us/hazard-mitigation-plan-update.
