South Lake Tahoe, CA (September 11, 2026) — South Tahoe Public Utility District will conduct 24-hour construction work on the Pioneer Trail water infrastructure project on weekdays from Monday, September 14, through Friday, October 2, 2026.

Work will occur on Pioneer Trail between Jicarilla Drive and Marshall Trail. One-lane traffic control will be in place during this period, and motorists should expect delays, construction equipment, and temporary noise. Please slow down in the work zone and allow extra travel time. Access to homes, schools, and emergency services will be maintained.

The Pioneer Trail project will improve drinking water reliability and strengthen fire protection for the Meyers community. The District is installing nearly 9,000 feet of new 16-inch water main, new fire hydrants, and three pressure-reducing valves along Pioneer Trail in El Dorado County.

“There is currently a critical gap in water infrastructure along this portion of Pioneer Trail,” said Trevor Coolidge, Senior Engineer for South Tahoe Public Utility District. “This project will strengthen the reliability and flexibility of our water system and ensure more water is available to support firefighting when it is needed most.”

There is currently no water main or hydrants along Pioneer Trail between Golden Bear Trail and Susquehanna Drive. The new infrastructure will improve water pressure and system reliability while increasing the availability of water for fire protection in our community.

Construction began in August and is expected to continue through October 2026. While the District will make every effort to minimize disruptions, unplanned emergency water shutoffs may occur. Residents are encouraged to keep at least five gallons of water on hand for emergencies.

The $6 million project is funded in part by the Environmental Protection Agency Community Grants Program, a USDA Forest Service grant through the Lake Tahoe Restoration Act, and a California Drinking Water State Revolving Fund loan.
