High Efficiency Washing Machine

The District offers a $200.00 rebate for high efficiency clothes washing machines that qualify. High efficiency washing machines (front-loading and some top-loading) use significantly less water, less energy, and are less damaging to clothing than older models. Traditional washing machine models use between 27-54 gallons of water per load, but new, energy- and water-conserving models (front-loading or top-loading, non-agitator ones) use only 16-20 gallons per load.

 Frequently Asked Questions

Starting April 22, the California Energy Commission will offer the California Cash for Appliances rebate program providing additional cash incentives to consumers purchasing high efficiency clothes washers and other high-efficiency appliances. The program is separate and unrelated to South Tahoe Public Utility District’s clothes washer rebate program and has different criteria for the purchase of new clothes washers and the disposal of old washers. The state has indicated that the California Cash for Appliances rebates can be combined with regional rebates.
