Information Systems Department

The Mission of the Information Systems Department is to:

  • Provide expert, prompt, and courteous hardware and software support services to all District employees.
  • Ensure that mission critical computer systems are reliable and fully functional at all times.
  • Facilitate professional and effective training on all standard District software to maintain the maximum level of productivity of District employees.
  • Develop strategies to utilize proactive, cost-effective technological solutions applicable to the efficient operation of the District.
  • Assist other departments in the extraction, compilation, and analysis of information maintained in District computer systems.

WHAT WE DO

The Information Systems department provides expert, prompt, and courteous hardware and software support, network services, training, and telephone system operation throughout the District to enable efficient use of data as an asset. We research and evaluate new computer systems and applications and modify existing programs to fill District needs and are responsible for managing District's security systems, maintaining the District's web site & District Intranet, and maintaining the District's phone system. During the past year, the department moved the District to a modern phone system. Our goals for the 2006/2007 are:

  1. Complete the implementation of a Laserfiche imaging and data retention system for various District departments.
  2. Assist in update and expansion of District's use of Hansen maintenance software systems.
  3. Continue to assist staff and outside consultants with interfaces between various software systems.
  4. Continue to assist staff and outside consultants with data retrieval needs for projects such as sewer or water rate studies, redevelopment, or water needs forecasting.
  5. Provide improved reporting features for the utility billing software and for the financial and payroll software.
  6. Move network operating systems to Windows 2003 Server.
  7. Monitor installation of phone and computer wiring for new Customer Service Facility.
  8. Coordinate computer move to new Customer Service Facility and participate in committee meetings to ensure technology specifications are appropriate.
  9. Complete implementation of a wireless network at the plant to facilitate remote response to SCADA alarms, and to better ensure operator communication and safety.
  10. Improve Internet security of District networked systems.
  11. Implement enhanced security for entrance gate and facilities.
  12. Update disaster recovery plan and procedures for data and communication systems.
  13. Maintain and improve utilization of I.T. asset/inventory and help desk software.
  14. Automate Windows updates. (WSUS)
  15. Update and improve financial, payroll and utility billing software.
  16. Isolate SCADA from business network to provide more security; assist with SCADA reporting.
  17. Maintain all District security systems: CyberKey, gates, firewall.
  18. Update I.T. Strategic Plan.
