Utility District Guidelines for Securing a Sewer & Water Permit and Payment of Connection Fees
Please make your payment of fees to the South Tahoe Public Utility District when you bring your plans for approval, which must be done after a City/County Fire Marshal approval letter has been issued and prior to submitting to the City/County Building Department. The break-down of current charges for a typical single family home excluding fire sprinklers or fire hydrant installation, with a ¾” domestic water service line, 1 kitchen, and two toilets are as follows:

Connection Fee (MINIMUM - 3 Sewer Units @ $4,930.00. unit) |
$14,790.00 |
Capacity Charge |
$6,833.00 |
|
|
Administrative Fee |
$150.00 |
| Sewer Permit Fee |
$50.00 |
Connection Fee T&M |
$2,000.00 |
| Total |
$14,840.00 |

$8,983.00 |
*If actual time and material charges are less than $2,000 deposit customer will be refunded difference; if charges are greater than deposit customer will be billed accordingly. As of January 1, 2011, all new construction must have a fire sprinkler system. The size of the fire line needed is determined by the Fire Marshall. Fire line installation fees are dependent on the fire line size and will be in addition to the example above.
Each bathroom in excess of two requires additional sewer connection fees totaling $4,930.00 (1 s. unit = $4,930.00)
If the STPUD water main servicing your property is less than 6” in diameter your plans and Fire Marshal letter/form must be submitted to our Engineering Department for review and recommendations before we can stamp your plans. This process can take up to two weeks.
When you pay your fees at our Customer Service Office, please bring the following:
- A check for sewer and water fees.
- Your original Allocation Letter or an Allocation Application from the City or County.
- A copy of your recorded Grant Deed.
- All sets of construction plans for stamping which must include the total water supply fixture units (WSFU) and coordinating water supply line size in compliance with the Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC).
- If your project is new construction, bring your application for residential water connection form reviewed, approved, and signed by the City Fire Marshal.
- For new construction, remodels, or additions to existing structures in the county, bring your letter of approval signed by the Lake Valley Fire Protection District (LVFPD) Fire Marshal.
- If a fire sprinkler system is required by the LVFPD Fire Marshal, sprinkler plans must be submitted to, reviewed and approved by the LVFPD Fire Marshal prior to obtaining a STPUD Stamp. Fire Line size must be included on sprinkler plans.
